An Unofficial Web Site of the
Bay Area Renaissance Festival
Largo, Florida
1979 - 2002

New (Unofficial) information for the 2002 season:

??? —The last Festival — ???

An article in the Clearwater Times section of the St. Petersburg Times, Saturday, April 4, 2002, reports that the Largo City Commission voted 5-2 to terminate the contract permitting the Bay Area Renaissance Festival to use the present grounds in Largo. (Others have said that this is the Tenth Annual End of BARF.)

It does look like the end for sure, though.

This page was created to honor the best of the  Renaissance Festivals we have attended. The Largo festival is ever so nicely disorganized to perfection. There are no rigid schedules, no straight lines in the town of Puddleton on Piddle. Puddleton has no concrete sidewalks or paved roads. The surroundings are natural, and you really have to look to see anything not of the Renaissance time. The town and its characters are alive and evolving. As are its shops and its patrons.

It is said that Puddleton will vanish under the blade of a bulldozer after the 2002 season. It may die, but its memory will live on in the minds of the people who lived and worked and visited there. Perhaps there will be a "new" Puddleton next year, but it won't the the festival we all knew and loved. It may the better or it may be worse. The certainty is that it cannot be the same.

Puddleton on Piddle is dead!
Long live Puddleton on Piddle!
